Medical Imaging Technologist: CT Research Assistant, Grade 2

  • This is a clinical and inspirational opportunity to advance research in CT.
  • This new position will assist Philips Healthcare in undertaking research projects as part of the Master Research Collaborative Agreement between Monash Health and Philips Healthcare.
  • You will continue to produce a high standard of quality images in all modalities trained in.
  • The role is a rostered shift-work role, depending on site and includes on-call work.

Monash Health provides integrated health care services available to over 1.3 million people, representing 32% of the population of greater Melbourne.  In early 2017 we opened a new 230 bed dedicated Children’s Hospital, co-located next to Monash Medical Centre Clayton.  This continues our tradition of providing outstanding patient and family centred care in a purpose-built paediatric facility where clinical services are being delivered in a child and family-friendly environment. 


Monash Imaging is Victoria’s largest public radiology provider dedicated to providing patient focussed services to the people of South East Melbourne and surrounding communities.  Monash Imaging has hospital sites at Clayton, Dandenong, Moorabbin, Casey, Kingston and two Dental Imaging practices.  Included at these sites are a full range of modalities including MRI, PET/CT, X-ray, Fluoroscopy, Ultrasound, Mammography, CT, Interventional Angiography, Nuclear Medicine and Bone Densitometry. 


Monash Health currently have a Master Research Collaborative Agreement with Philips Healthcare, focusing on Computed Tomography. This includes the provision of a Clinical Scientist to Monash Clayton’s Imaging department on a part-time basis. The objective of the collaboration is to explore clinical avenues and assess impact of recent advances in CT imaging. The research topics vary but all relate to Philips Healthcare’s iPatient specific features which have come into clinical use the in recent past.

You will be a MIT rotating through a CT research assistant role in collaboration with Philips Healthcare and a clinical role in your specialist modalities.

This fantastic opportunity will enable you to build on your research skills, as well as maintaining your clinical skills in other areas.

You will be supported by the Unit Head Professor of CT Scanning, the Network CT Supervisor MIT and by the Chief MIT. You will work clinically with dedicated staff both within and outside of Monash Imaging. You will model the values of Monash Health and the culture of Patient and Family Centred Care.


  • Work closely with Philips clinical scientist to achieve the output requirements of the research agreement.
  • Assist in data collection and management of data storage
  • Assist in transforming research data into scientific posters, abstracts and manuscripts
  • Investigating new protocols and discussing with Supervisor MITs where appropriate
  • Ensure high quality images are produced by leading by example.
  • Assist with the education of staff, students and other professionals.
  • Ensure safety is maintained for all persons and equipment.
  • Shift and on-call work is required.


  • Strong commitment and ability to follow standards of excellence in imaging.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of aspects of medical research and it’s requirements.
  • Current registration with the MRPB of Australia.
  • Current Victorian Radiation User licence.
  • Current Police check and valid Employee Working with Children card.
  • Demonstrable advanced skills and knowledge of radiography.

This role will be shared between working with the Philips Clinical Scientist and Monash Imaging, primarily based at Monash Medical Centre in Clayton. The role may involve some travelling to other Monash Imaging sites also. Parking is available, and there is a café, bank and staff gym on site.
