About us

Monash Women's Maternity Service is the largest maternity provider in Victoria providing care to over 9,500 women each year across three hospitals: Monash Medical Centre, Dandenong and Casey hospitals.  

Casey provides maternity care for close to 2500 women per annum with plans to increase into the future. The maternity service at Casey has three maternity teams, booking women from low to increasingly higher levels of complexity.  Caseload and a public home birth program are also included in all three teams (Diamond, Ruby and Sapphire) affording local women the gold standard or continuity of care.

The Midwifery Manager | Sapphire Maternity Team Leader together with the obstetric partner is jointly responsible for their multidisciplinary team.  The Sapphire Team has one full clinic day a week providing care for up to 600 women booking per annum. The Sapphire Team with approx 19.1 EFT midwives have opportunity to rotate through clinic, birth suite, postnatal and extended care into the home, to maximise continuity of carer and the experience for women. The young womens’ clinic also falls within the Sapphire Team.

This dual role includes manager of the birth suites at Casey Hospital with 10 birth rooms and a pregnancy assessment / fetal monitoring area. This manager also holds the overarching responsibility for the caseload program /reconciliation tool, working in close partnership with the respective Ruby and Diamond Team Leaders and the three team’s caseload midwives. As such this role presents a very exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to focus on helping us cultivate and develop our service to give the highest standard of care to the women and their families in our growing community.

About you

You are an experienced midwife who has a strong commitment to exceptional care and outstanding outcomes.  You will have opportunity to work closely with your team in the Birth Suite at Casey daily, and coordinate your pregnancy clinic at Pakenham weekly. You will be inspired everyday working with like minded, passionate colleagues who share your values and purpose.

To be selected for interview you will need to demonstrate:

  • Minimum of 5 years postgraduate midwifery experience, with a minimum 3 years in an Associate or equivalent leadership role.
  • Commitment to supporting midwives the opportunity to gain and maintain full scope of practice.
  • A commitment to safe practice, utilising a sound knowledge of relevant legislation, guidelines and standards.
  • Skills in leading the planning, implementation, evaluation and maintenance of midwifery care at a consistently high standard.
  • Coordinating the department’s activities including workload and team rostering.
  • Work collaboratively with a highly skilled multidisciplinary team to achieve goals and health outcomes
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with health professionals, support staff and other stakeholders, both internal and external to Monash Health.
  • Consistently role model midwifery excellence, demonstrating your commitment to family centred care and best practice standards.
  • The ability to lead and motivate a team to work effectively together in a clinical setting.
  • Excellent organisational skills, time management, analytical and problem solving skills.
  • A passion for midwifery, with a demonstrated commitment to empower childbearing women and their families within a service that embraces consistency of advice and continuity of philosophy
  • Strong verbal and written communication, influencing and interpersonal skills.

Current AHPRA registration is a mandatory requirement for this role and relevant postgraduate qualifications in midwifery. Management and leadership qualifications or working towards will be highly regarded.
