About Us: 

Monash Children's in conjunction with The Royal Children’s Hospital is responsible for recruitment to the Victorian Paediatric Basic Training Network (VPBTN). Monash Children’s coordinates the recruitment of the BPT2 positions within the VPBTN. If applying for a BPT1 or BPT3 position please see www.rch.org.au/jms.  The RACP BPT2 year has a 12 month training program that will expose its participants to critical areas of neonatal and paediatric medicine. The appointment (position) involves:

  • 6 months rotation in a tertiary Neonatal Intensive Care unit (RWH/MCH/MHW);
  • 6 months of other rotations (comprising a mix of specialty medical units and general paediatrics) (MCH, RCH, Northern, Casey, Austin, Warragul and Geelong – may include additional sites in 2019);

Please note that in 2019, there will be no positions without a neonatal rotation.

About You:


Applications are invited from Medical Practitioners with at least 12 months paediatric experience following the intern year incorporating no more than 6 months neonatal medicine, and ideally in a RACP Level 3 paediatric centre; who wish to undertake Paediatric Physician Training. Successful applicants must demonstrate their potential for progressing through the Paediatric training program and for developing as a Consultant Paediatrician. They must also demonstrate an ability to practice competently at a high clinical standard.

About the role

At the successful completion of this 12 month program, trainees will be considered for a further 12 months as a first year Registrar usually with general paediatric and emergency rotations in a tertiary paediatric centre and a secondment within Melbourne. This second 12 month period is managed by the Royal Children's Hospital. For further information please refer to the position description.

Interviews: Friday 27 July 2018 at Monash Children’s Hospital, Clayton. Interviews will be limited - please see attached information sheet. No interview will take place for applicants who do not submit 3 completed references. For telephone interviews you will need to supply a landline telephone number, no mobile phone numbers will be accepted. 

Please note for non-Monash Health staff; as part of the application process you will be required to complete and attach a ‘fit to work National police check consent form’ to your application along with 100 points of certified ID.

Selection Criteria Are you an Australian citizen or have you been granted permanent residency of Australia?

Are you medically registered to work in Australia?

Are you currently employed as a JRMO (BPT1) in the VPBTN (through RCH)?

Are you a basic trainee of RACP?

Do you consent for the selection panel to contact all your referees?

Do you consent for the selection panel to contact your ward supervisors?

Do you have 12 months experience in paediatrics (no more than 6 months neonates) following your intern year?

Have you worked in a tertiary paediatric centre, and for how long?

A current Employee Victorian Working with Children Check (WWCC) is required for all medical staff. If you have a WWCC please list the number and expiry date. If not, should you be successful for this position you will be required to supply a copy.

You are required to attach a copy of your Primary & Specialist (if applicable) Medical Qualification in the Education Certificate section in the next step. Please respond YES to confirm your acknowledgement. If successful you will be required to present the original or certified copy to MDW.

Candidates who are not Monash Health staff are required to attach a completed Fit2Work consent form along with 100 points of certified ID. Please respond YES to confirm your acknowledgment of this requirement or N/A if you are a current employee or an International Medical Graduate
